Neuro-Linguistic Programming

Original article on www.NLP4India.in

NLP is often called the study of excellence. The original article notes that people also describe it as communication, as the core of coaching, as a therapeutic approach, or as a model of models — and treats those descriptions as compatible rather than competing.

It then sets out the three letters: Neuro as the senses and nervous system through which we form perception; Linguistic as the verbal and non-verbal means by which we make sense of experience and speak it; Programming as the conscious and unconscious patterns we run in response. NLP, in that account, is concerned with how mind and language work together, and with the state a person is in, more than with the story of why something happened.

A matching brief is also on the NLP insight page and in What is NLP?.

NLP and coaching

NLP began by modelling outstanding therapists and communicators. The original article traces how those patterns moved into coaching: building the relationship, setting goals that take in a person’s whole life, and working with beliefs, habits and specific difficulties.

Coaching and NLP can each be practised alone. Together, the article argues, they give the work a structure — from the first conversation through to change-work on a particular issue. Read the ANLP India brief of NLP and Coaching.

NLP Psychology through Bhagwad Geeta

Sushil Mehrotra’s programme reads NLP psychology beside the Bhagwad Geeta. NLP, as set out there, is concerned with choice, feedback and persistent action. The Geeta is presented as a conversation on a battlefield — not a retirement discourse — about directed action and how words can change a person’s thinking.

It is for people curious about both fields, including those with no previous NLP or psychology. The work starts from basic NLP concepts and then explores the Geeta in that light.

The Art of Storytelling

Stories are how people entertain, teach and influence — from a conversation at home to a talk in a boardroom. The original programme page notes that, for all that familiarity, many people still find it hard to use a story well.

This applied-NLP programme covers how to locate, create and shape a story, then how to deliver it: sensory language, nested loops, engaging an audience, emotion and voice. No previous NLP is required.

The Art of Selling

The Art of Persuasive Selling is an applied-NLP workshop led by Sushil Mehrotra. The original page sets it out for people who work with targets, negotiation and closing — and for anyone who needs to persuade others to invest time, money or trust.

It covers sales vision, communication, presentation, and the use of self-talk and meta-programmes in conversation with a customer. No previous NLP is required.
