Readings on NLP

Six short pieces on what NLP is, how it is used in coaching and leadership, and how emotion and personal empowerment sit in that work.

Neuro-Linguistic Programming — An Insight

TL;DR

NLP is a way of studying how the senses take in the world, how language names that experience, and how we are programmed to respond. Those three parts influence one another, so a person’s habits also shape what they notice. Modelling people who do something well is how many NLP techniques were built; the same ideas are used in communication, coaching, teaching and work, not only in therapy.

NLP and Coaching

TL;DR

NLP began by modelling outstanding therapists and noticing what they shared in belief, language and behaviour. Coaches use those patterns to build the relationship, set goals that take in a person’s whole life, and work with beliefs, habits and specific difficulties. Coaching and NLP can each be practised alone; together they give the work a structure.

Inspiring Change: Leadership Strategies for Creating a Culture of Innovation

TL;DR

Innovation is treated as a condition of survival, not a luxury — Kodak’s failure to move with digital photography is the caution. A culture of experiment is built when leaders make it safe to speak, give time and teaching, model the behaviour themselves, and give constructive feedback when an idea does not work.

Emotional Empowerment with NLP

TL;DR

People often feel at the mercy of anger, sadness or a lack of fulfilment, even when they cannot name why. NLP, used with emotional intelligence, is presented as a way to choose a useful state — emotionally empowered, not only emotionally intelligent — with effects on health, work and relationships.

How Emotions Work?

TL;DR

Emotions are not only reactions to what happens; they have a rhythm of their own, independent of the story the mind tells. Laughing, crying and other releases matter for the body. The piece offers a simple sequence: notice, acknowledge, take a little distance, and express in a way that respects yourself and others.

NLP Presuppositions and Personal Empowerment

TL;DR

NLP presuppositions are working assumptions that shift a person from feeling like a victim toward a sense of choice. Among them: everyone has a unique map of the world, and the map is not the territory; the meaning of communication is the response you get; there is no failure, only feedback; people already have the resources they need.
